Keep in mind that the FERC permit is essential, however it’s immediate issuance is not essential. There is reason for Delfin to slow walk this permit, especially if the permit remains in its current form as a one year permit (which makes no sense) for the development of this globally essential infrastructure. Also keep in mind that this project can now move forward in the private and perhaps public sectors now that Louisiana has reaffirmed its support for the project. With these ideas in mind, there is no reason why Delfin couldn’t enter into long term offtake contracts with stipulation regarding the FERC permit. Good reason for delaying or increasing the FERC permits duration is: 1) the administration can articulate the reasons for supporting clean energy globally and 2) it gives Delfin additional time to build out the on-shore facilities while the more capital intensive FLNG’s are being constructed. I believe that this project is starting to materialize, it’s really a win win win when you looks at the details of the millions of tons of GHG emissions that will be eliminated by Delfin as the world transitions to a carbon neutral planet.
