Hi bbotcs, Obviously, they were aware of what was happening in China. If the Chinese-Americans knew, so did the U.S. Government. IMO, the Trump Administration fell down on the job.

As I recall, just banning flights from China on Feb 2nd caused the MSM to accuse Trump of being racist.

By then, people were coming back from cruises infected, from Europe infected, and other parts of Asia infected. It was already too late.

By that didnt stop the media from immediately blaming Trump for the pandemic in the US, despite the fact that every non-island country was also experiencing it. IMO this pollicization cause the MAGA world to counter with the misguided "dont wear masks" movement followed by the anti-vax movement.
