I'm not exactly following. She owns shares in two separate companies? Are you sure they are both publicly traded? If so, they are probably held by the co's transfer agent. What do you mean she keeps getting letters from "off brand companies?" If it is the co transfer agent I would guess there are fees that would be included in the sale and that is why it is less than what they are worth. If they are publicly traded companies and they aren't penny stocks, she could transfer them to a brokerage. I would first call whatever brokerage you deal with and ask them "I have stock in xyz and I want to know if you would allow a transfer on them."
