Many forms of asset protection are protecting assets to avoid paying taxes on them. If I went to a country outside the US, that didn't report information to the IRS, and opened a savings account. Now the reason why I opened an account is because I wanted to protect my assets from the control of the US govt. I can't pay taxes on the money because then it won't be protected anymore.
