Actually, it's the virus itself which will alter your cell's genes. The virus uses the mRNA spike protein to pierce the cell's wall so it can inject it's own RNA into the cell where it destroys your cell's RNA to begin making literally thousands of copies of itself.

The mRNA vaccine trains one's immune system to recognize the spike protein as an intruder. The mRNA vaccine does not carry the viral RNA which is what damages/kills your body's cells.
