What is the amount after taxes… I am in the long term capital gains on my shares. What is the difference between claiming profits as ordinary income and claiming it as long term capital gains. I guess there are other factors that go into that equation. Offsetting losses against the gain and what tax bracket you are in. But bottom line is you never really capture the whole profit. Uncle Sam always wants to be your partner when you have a gain… and always deserts you as a partner when you have a loss. They are always a winner
