But I finally did find a story about the incident. It did not happen quite as you describe.

The flight did not "turn around". The mother and child, who'd been boarded, had to deplane, because he refused to wear his mask. That's all.

Davis and her son boarded another American Airlines flight home on Thursday, and she said the pilot on the second flight apologized profusely.
