To purchase patents and the subsequent enforcement of those patents would cost quite a bit of $$ and it is $$ WDDD did not have. Just trying to enforce the patents they already have has been a costly experience.

I believe what Patience meant was expand the business with ideas beyond patent enforcement that generate revenue. Owning patents alone does not generate revenue unless a party agrees to a licensing deal. WDDD has already been down that 12 year path and so far they have generated $315K in licensing deals. Not a lucrative venture so far.
