I'm sorry. You did not read the material correctly.

In the https://www.kraiglabs.com/comparison/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" >https://www.kraiglabs.com/comparison/[tag]cost comparison/tag] page on KBLB's website, there are a couple of mentions about the cost of production. In the first graph, it indicates that the cost of production is "< $300" per kilo. Thompson is not reporting the price to buyers. He is reporting the cost of producing a kilo of silk. The cost is less than $300 per kilo.

The second table has a row labeled "Production Cost." For KBLB the entry is:

PUBLISHED: Less than $300 per kilogram. Economical silk production using silkworms have existed for thousands of years.

(Note the grammatical mistake is present in the table and has been copied accurately.)

Once again we see the figure that Thompson is reporting is the cost of production, not the price for buyers AND the exact production cost is not given, only that it is less than $300 per kilo.

Finally, a later passage adds a little more detail:

Our production process is as simple as growing and feeding white mulberry leaves to our proprietary silkworms and harvesting recombinant spider silk directly from the cocoons. Using this economical technique, our recombinant silk production can decisively beat the $300 per kilogram threshold ...

Note once again that this is a cost of production not a price. We have been told that the cost is 'decisively' less than $300 per kilo.

Mundane silk can be produced for $30 to $50 a kilo. If we assume the overhead (quality control) on KBLB's silk doubles the price, producing a kilo should cost somewhere between $60 and $100. This is, of course, a conjecture but it certainly represents beating the $300/kilo production cost decisively.

As I said, KBLB has never reported price information on their silks. We don't know how much they will charge. What we know is that KBLB can produce silk at decisively less than $300 a kilo.
