Pfizer and BioNTech's partnership in this field dates back to 2018 when they agreed to jointly develop an mRNA based vaccine for the flu. Then Covid came along.

Robert Malone has an ax to grind with "Big Pharma" as he thinks he should have the rights to mRNA vaccines, not them. So he's saying things that are easily twisted into misinformation by the likes of a Glenn Beck or Steve Bannon.
