That article is a classic piece of prevarication. If one actually reads the article referred to, the placebo group was offered the real vaccine after the FDA granted emergency approval. That means they did indeed "lose" the control group in a study regarding the efficacy of the vaccine, but they "lost" it after the study had already proven the efficacy of the vaccine.

That's like me running a math problem out on a piece of paper, and coming up with the a solution. If I was to then run the piece of paper through the shredder, that doesn't mean the solution to my math problem becomes a falsehood.
