Indeed. Everyone should take such sage advice to heart.

Politicians of all stripes have contributed to the debacle in Afghanistan. Over a period of almost 20 years.

Politicians who knew better but just didn't care. Just like Viet Nam. I would say I hope they have learned better but I know they haven't. All politicians are $hit. Those who aren't do not last long.
