Prescott needs a layer more than Northwood

I don't think Prescott "needs" another metal layer. Keep in mind, density wise more metal layers are good, yield wise they are bad. I'm sure it would be a fairly easy calculation to see where the tradeoff is. I would guess that AMD realized the defects introduced by adding more metal was less than those affecting the larger die size without the added layers. Ultimately more useable die per wafer. Why else do it?
