Look at EEENF posting 30062 to see where I attempted to clarify the relationship of Nominee companies and dispel the thought that these are institutional investors.

Years ago I worked on the creation of Canadian Depository for Securities that closely reflected the operation of DTC in New York. The book based system. ASX has one as well. Share holdings are stored electronically, getting rid of share certificates in most cases. Ease of trading, signature guarantees, speeding up trade settlement processes.

Many times postings wrongly call these nominee name as institutional investors. There may be institutional shareholding’s included but all retail customers are a part as well.
