So again you agree that MM's don't have an inventory of shares, that means that near all volume yesterday was MM's shorting shares and then swapping shares back and forth to each other. You act like the idea of MM's swapping naked short shares back and forth is real volume.
So retail buys shares, MM's naked short sell those shares, another MM just naked shorts shares to that MM making them "cover", but then the second MM is short, so another MM naked shorts the shares to them and so on. So sure they "cover" but only because MM's just continue to swap "air" shares back and forth to one another waiting for actual retail orders to balance the books across the board.
This is why short squeezes happen
