Um, no. Viruses mutate all the time. A new mutation may be more or less transmissible and/or more or less deadly. Vietnam needs almost 150,000,000 doses of the vaccine to reach herd immunity.

If a new, deadly, and highly transmissible variant emerges that bypasses current vaccines, we could be starting all over with our pandemic response. This is THE problem our epidemiologists are fearful of.

Vietnam has few arrows in its pandemic quiver other than social distancing and lock downs. Disruptions may last for months and may get worse. Or their distancing may be effective and quarantine may be over quickly.
