Here's on that's a pet peeve of mine:

On the phone talking to customer service, I'm asked "can I get you to verify your address" etc. It seems to me they have this backwards. They really mean to ask "can you tell me your address do I can verify". So the question is, in this exchange who is the one verifying, the person saying the address or the one determining it's correct?
