How many times I have read this and actually gave little thought to it, then the other day when I read this I began to really wonder.....then I learned it is a passage in Scripture that is very difficult, according to the theologians. I worked on this for 3 days and then coming to the bottom line, it all can be summarized is a few words. I am only trying to get a grip on this, so if you have anything to offer, I appreciate any input.

Luke 8: 9-10
The Purpose of Parables

9 Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?”
10 And He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that
‘Seeing they may not see,
And hearing they may not understand.’

It appears that many folks have wondered why would Jesus wanted to keep His message a secret by speaking in parables, a way of creating confusion, so to speak. SO, why would Jesus veil the truth to hide it from His most intimate followers, so goes the theory, but the obvious purpose of Jesus and His parables was to make the truth plain. We understand if if we continue in the reading of Luke and that is because Jesus explains to His disciples the meaning, see at this time even the disciples did not understand what Jesus was saying... A side point here, this is why we should not take a verse and make a personal point, what comes before and after that verse very often changes what we thought about the verse. Judging is an excellent example. another lesson.. I chased this Scripture back into the O.T., Isaiah 6:9-10, and to get the picture I had to also read the before and after to understand what God was saying to Isaiah, then I chased it over into Jeremiah. Like I said, I have been 3 days in this thing, so I will cut the chase and make it short. I am going to go to Isaiah, seeing as this was what Jesus was using in his parable in Luke, when I got a grasp on Isaiah, then I got a grasp on the subject at hand.

Isaiah the prophet has come to declare the will of the Lord. Even though the results will be that man's unwillingness to respond will develop into a stubborn opposition, eventually making their response impossible. Our ears become deafened by the very clarity of what the Lord is saying.----Let's us think about this in today's time frame. For me to understand this I had to give serious thought to what I thought comes between us today and God"s will for us. Is it a career, money, entertainment, popularity, sports, and the list can go on & on----NOW, none of this is wrong when we keep God's will in our hearts and strive to live to His will, however, when we leave God outside and make the "ME" the central focus, then we lend a deaf ear to God's will. The parable concerns the "mysteries of the kingdom of God", we may not grasp the mystery of the kingdom of God in Jesus's parables because our wants and desires for our personal selves gets in the way. I am not casting stones here but many of our religious institutions suffer the same "ME" problem.

I do not know how clear my understanding is to you and for that I apologize, but then again if it made you think a little, well that's a good thing

God Bless
