Gunnabe, on the other hand needs to rewrite the patent laws in order to find a path that supports his agenda. Virgil, who has come the farthest, still can't get all the way and needs to redefine the meaning of the Statnome project itself in order to keep his head above water.
The fact that all three have pursued completely different paths in order to rationalize their responses, seems quite indicative of the instinctive flailing that is the result of such an attack on the structure of these 'known facts'. It is as if an earthquake was shaking the foundation of their house but each individual grasped at something different to try to maintain a balance.
