It's important to note that the reported cases of myocarditis following vaccination "have not differed" from the number that would have occurred in the population even without the vaccine, the CDC points out. It's unclear whether this is a very rare side effect or just a coincidence that has no connection to the vaccine. But, per the CDC statement, members of the safety panel felt it was important to get the word out to health care providers.
