There were also long-term side effects of the 2018-2019 flu. A considerable number of people came down with a form of Parkinson's. And that affected them for the rest of their lives.

Some subsequent smaller flu epidemics have caused similar problems. And that's one of the reasons we're all supposed to get the flu vaccine every year: it can manifest as a very serious disease.
