the mistaken belief that AT&T wireless is offering 3G “next generation” services from reading such in their literature.

My point is, they are offering 3G “next generation” services. Name one thing that PCS's 1X "3G" service can do that AT&T (or T-mobile, for that matter) can't do. It would be particularly helpful if you could do so without citing Qualcomm press releases. The reality of it is that GPRS is functionally competitive with 1X and is actually better in many ways, from my standpoint as a user of both technologies. I'd concede that AT&T is guilty of deceit in trying to rebrand 2.5 G as 3G if you can concede that Qualcomm is guilty of the same in trying to imply that 3G is better than 2.5G.

I am a longime QCOM investor that has bought into the thinking that CDMA2K's technological advantages would crush the GSM competition. Now, after all these years of waiting for 1X, I still find myself considering GSM products. It's disillusioning for someone as biased as myself towards CDMA. As GSM carriers transition (willingly) to wCDMA, Qualcomm will still benefit (obviously), but if and when they do so, it will be because of carrier push, not because of consumer pull, IMO. That, to me, is a disappointment, because it will slow down the pace of the transition enormously.
