At the risk of being a Cassandra, I too, am very concerned about all the variants, known and yet unknown, brewing elsewhere. The "gain of function" folks seemed to have pieced together a veritable "virus-stein" monster. It replicates, mutates, and in a funky 'natural-selection' manner even sort-of learns. At the expense of the Indians, Brazilians, etc. it is honing its abilities and in the meantime we're frolicking in the surf, clustering at sports events, and secure in the knowledge that we're "SAFE."

And I guess, to some degree, we're relatively safe from the menace of the original Covid-19. But I fear a "New, Improved Version" coming from crowded enclaves of the third world and even some "not so third-world" countries, is working its way toward our shores.

Further craziness, we won't know it's here for approximately two weeks after it's arrived. I don't know - are our testing, detecting, tracing, and tracking mechanisms "up to speed?"
