Tilray CEO welcomes Reddit users, Generation Z as investors • 5:17 PM

Tilray (NASDAQ:TLRY) CEO Irwin Simon is excited by the interest of many Reddit users and Generation Z as retail investors in his company, he said on CNBC this afternoon.

"You want them as investors," he said. "You want them as consumers. We're using them to get a lot of feedback on our products."

He added that retail investors overall recognize the value and growth in the cannabis industry.

Simon headed Aphria before its merger with Tilray closed in April.
Prior to that deal, Aphria inked a $300M deal in November to acquire SweetWater Brewing Company. Simon said that today, that combined market value of Tilray, Aphria, and SweetWater is ~$9B.

He was appearing on CNBC's Closing Bell to discuss the launch today of its medical cannabis brand Symbios.

He also mentioned a new beer from SweetWater available on Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) flights, noting that he could see beverages with CBD and even THC on flights some day as a way to calm fliers' nerves.

Tilray shares are up 2% to $20.62 in after-hours trading.
