Personal Protective Equipment is job/career focused.

If you worked for an iron forge company you’d hardly call your Aluminum lined gloves or jacket medical equipment.

If you were a chef in a kitchen you’d get laughed at for calling your apron (protects against spills) medical equipment.

Sort of like how I need a face shield to protect me from the Optec/WeShield vomit.
