So you are saying that shorts have the power to move the AMC stock from $36 to $26 in a few hours after they ran it up from $26 to $36 at the open. Yet all the numbers for the number of shorts held went up for the day by a few percent. Your logic does not hold water or does not make sense. If it was true I would expect a major change in the number of short positions held by the close yesterday. That number went up a little. Not enough to move the stock $10 one way or the other. It was simple MMs closing out options and selling all the shares they were holding for people who were selling their options back to the MMs.
Why don't you get the actual numbers from some reputable web source and so we don't argue back and forth as to what caused the major shift in stock price up and then down yesterday.
