The CDC data I was looking at was showing 3,000 total hospitalizations last week.


Wrong. It said 7 day average or 7 day moving average. That means 3,100 per day based upon the average of the previous 7 days. You know I'm right. That is why you erased your original message after reading mine. There was even a 5 minute gap where you had erased your message and it was blank while you were thinking of something to write.
