Its major use is for a company to voluntarily delist it’s self from the Major markets and SEC more stringent guide lines and move back to OTC markets which are less strict. You are right in stating that it saves companies money, it reduces there costs in complying with certain SEC requirements, it’s more important reason is to allow a company more time to spend on company business and worry less about SEC's requirements also, a major benefit is from not having to reveal its current movements and actions to its competitors
