I guess I do and don't agree. Yes removing plaques has wasted money and time but the plaques and toxic oligomers do damage neurons. That's always been known. The problem is that removing plaque doesn't matter because the damage has been done, that is unless you have a drug that can potentially repair the networks. What the new research shows is that Sigma-1 receptor is potentially feeding into and increasing the formation of plaques at the exact worst time possible to create the damage at the axon level. It's all in the article. It could be the law of unintended consequences. Could also explain why a significant percentage of patients who have taken that drug track much worse than historical placebo. I mean none of us know, and that's part of the problem but that research came out 2 days ago so is a new line of thinking.
