The USD is backed not by hot air but by DEBT. That's why we have a massive national debt of well over $20 trillion. The debt is now bigger than money in circulation.

That debt gets paid through taxes...at least the interest on it the debt. The principle is now passed the point of no return. The debt removes dollars from circulation and keeps the dollar's value from collapsing. This isn't Weimar Germany or Zimbabwe.
