Wow, if that’s true their maintenance people must have done something horribly wrong to cause that situation. These large active broadband antennas draw a lot of power, but the fail safe systems required for inflight make that virtually impossible. The test processes and certification paths are so complex and expensive, which is why these antennas cost around $250k. However, if you want live internet on your airliner you have no choice and you have to maintain them.

A lot to be said for a small passive narrowband antenna in a window. Has zero maintenance requirements and as it’s not connected to aircraft power, so has no certification issues.
