what if instead of growing mulberries, the farmers could grow rice and use it or sell it and make money doing that...and while they are cultivating the rice, prodigy gets the leaves or stalks for free...so much the better..

That's why i said the following:

Unless, of course, they can create a line that eats waste from other large agricultural industries.

I don't think we are disagreeing.

i don't think ms or ds is going to sell for as high a price as once anticipated either...

I definitely disagree with this. The high number I've read on this message board for Kraigs silk is $300/kilo. I'm betting MS and DS sell for that, and maybe more. That's $136/lbs. My girlfriend just bought Egyptian cotton sheets for almost $300. And I've seen some for close to $500 for a set. There is a demand for high end material. And that's just for sheets. Literally the most basic textile there is. Not much design work or stitchery for sheets. I'm betting spider silk will be much more desirable (at least for the foreseeable future) than eqyptian cotton (just as an example). And when it's made into a product, demand will outstrip supply for a long time, which will also increase the price.

Side note: remember when dvd players cost over $2000? I do. It took a couple years for the price to come down
