I agree. But I also don't know the dynamics of finding good fresh mulberry in the US. I know silk strength/quality differs if silkworms eat the pre-made chow rather than fresh mulberry. So it looks like KBLB was spending almost 12 grand a year to make sure there silk had a constant supply of fresh mulberry. I can't be mad at that considering mulberry production isn't an expansive industry in the US.

Question is what results has the biological engineer had with her non mulberry diet silkworms in relation to USA production in the future.



This is the big question. If this new line of silkworms (engineered specifically for US production) can consume something much cheaper and readily available then mulberry, then it changes the game. There are tons of different agriculture fodder (alfalfa, hay, etc) in the US that have that potential. Or, imagine if the input is actually a waste from a different industry, then you have an essentially free input.

It will be interesting to see it unfold, but it's clear that they are moving towards US production.
