Yes, I believe the community has concerns as was voiced during the public hearing: https://upriseri.com/pyrolysis-medrecyclerri-dem-rhode-island/

The concerns were further voiced by the governor and AG.

Taking a broader view, what community wants a medical recycler to set up shop in their city whereby they import medical waste from local regions/states and bring into their city - I wouldn't. If one believes this to be true, the next logical progression is for locals to create roadblocks to the approval which fits their narrative. This is where I think the locals have excelled - a media blitz against - both print and air media, attention from environmentalist, medical personnel, politicians, attorneys questioning the legal process, chemical engineers questioning the process to be used etc.

The concerns, whether they be fact based or not, seem to outweigh the perceived benefits from the Mede - at least for locals. It's a tough battle to win public approval for such a facility - they will throw out everything including the potential negative impact on real estate, health concerns etc.

Here is the question I have - at the end of the day does the local sentiment really matter? Is the DEM in full control of the approval and will make a decision on the technology/state benefit irrespective of the local sentiment. Thoughts?

My opinions.
