I had 2 Scriptures in mind this morning, this one below and Philippians 4:13-----

"to heal the brokenhearted" is removed from some translations and also in Matthew, but that piece of this Scripture has always been a rock for me. Isaiah 61:1 includes brokenhearted....

Luke 4: 18-19
"“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

I have made mention that I have much of my dad's Bible Study stuff and I found this which he had marked years ago.....I am 77 so you get a flavor for what I mean by years ago. From the Interpreter's Bible

"There are various forms of captivity into which men are slowly and gradually drawn and the existence of which they will try to deny. It is the captivity which comes through seductions of the flesh because of which a man may yield more and more to his appetites and passions until at length he is a slave to dissipation and degradation. From that kind of captivity the challenging purity of Jesus called men to emerge, and the fire of His inspiration could cut through the chains that held them."

Then also: "There is another captivity into which men go willingly. It is seen most clearly in discouraged and disorganized times. Individuals feel a sense of inadequacy and frustration; they grow hopeless as to the working out any successful destiny of their own. The book "escape from freedom" tells it like this.."people deliberately seek to yield up their individualities with all the burden of their unsure choices to some masterful spirit who claims the right to rule. Thus millions of people in Germany submitted themselves with a kind of fanatical relief to Adolf Hitler. Thus Communist find a fierce sense of power by surrendering their own independence and becoming unquestioning devotees of the party line."--------------I noticed that my father had underlined the piece from the book---Escape from Freedom, although his study here was years ago, I can not help but wonder where his mind went to on this subject.

Enough here to kick the ole mind into gear, but, I have no idea why I went here, except, my 1st post with the old song----that brought this Scripture to mind, then I found my father's underlined piece, call me nuts or whatever....but God works in mysterious ways. Now none of this may ring a bell with any of you, but it sure did with me----especially the 'captive" part and how slowly we are drawn away from God into our little corner of the world, a world which we are most comfortable
