rooster (and all) -- a purer, a more transparently un-self-consciously ridiculous, example of projection raging completely out of control I don't know that I have ever seen -- thanks

here's the link to that ever-so-nice little slice of Melanie Morgan's (see http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Melanie_Morgan -- . . .) clinical insanity rooster so kindly shared in the post to which this post is a reply: http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53636

here's Heidi Cullen's bio ( http://www.weather.com/aboutus/television/ocms/cullen.html ) (speaking of something about which I do know, her qualifications and background are outstanding):

Dr. Heidi Cullen
Climate Expert

Dr. Heidi Cullen has joined The Weather Channel as climate expert and will have the key responsibility of adding explanation, depth and perspective to climate stories.

Dr. Cullen most recently was a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO. She has done research in the U.S. Southwest and the Middle East, publishing on domestic and international climate topics.

As a post-doc, she received a NOAA Climate & Global Change Fellowship and spent two years working at the International Research Institute for Climate Prediction. She received a B.S. in Engineering/Operations Research from Columbia University in NYC and went on to receive a Ph.D. in climatology and ocean-atmosphere dynamics at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. Her dissertation focused on trying to understand the impacts and dynamics of the North Atlantic Oscillation, an important climate influence.

Dr. Cullen joins a staff of experts at The Weather Channel who are each renowned in their own fields. Led by Senior Meteorologist and Director of Weather Communications Stu Ostro, the 'severe weather alley' at The Weather Channel includes: Dr. Steve Lyons, hurricane expert and Dr. Greg Forbes, tornado expert.

Heidi's original blog post, 'JUNK CONTROVERSY NOT JUNK SCIENCE...', is at http://climate.weather.com/blog/9_11396.html (with extensive comments, mostly from loony wingers sicced on her by RUUSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, Drudge and company)

Heidi's follow-up blog post, 'A VERY POLITICAL CLIMATE', is at http://climate.weather.com/blog/9_11592.html (also with extensive comments, again mostly from loony wingers sicced on her by RUUSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, Drudge and company)

video of Heidi further responding to all this nonsense can be seen at/via http://climate.weather.com/?ref=184f042fafb8affbbf2f17ab105760ba435ba9d9

Capitol Climate

The climate for action on climate policy has changed with the new Congress, according to an article, "Bills on Climate Move to Spotlight in New Congress [ http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/18/washington/18climate.html ]," in today's NYT. The silicon-based version also includes a graphic depicting the potential effects on greenhouse gas emissions of several alternative proposed bills.

One thing which hasn't changed in the new Congress (other than a switch in labels from "majority" to "minority") is the continuing vehement attack on global warming and its advocates from the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. The latest, a blog post [ http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressRoom.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=32abc0b0-802a... ] criticizing The Weather Channel's Heidi Cullen, was featured on today's Drudge Report. (Well, actually, it was below and to the left of the UFO article.)

The main point is the assertion that Dr. Cullen advocates that the AMS "revoke" the Seal of Approval from those "who do not agree" with her position. Here's the quote from her blog: "If a meteorologist can't speak to the fundamental science of climate change, then maybe the AMS shouldn't give them a Seal of Approval." Where does that demand either decertification or agreement with a particular position? In fact, the AMS, presumably with considerable input from those potentially affected, already has included climatology and climate change as a major category in the study guide [ http://www.ametsoc.org/amscert/cbmstudyguide.html ] for its new Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Program [ http://www.ametsoc.org/amscert/ ].

Since the EPW Committee minority doesn't like to get climate science from climate scientists, where do they get their "Facts of the Day"? From a science fiction writer [ http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressRoom.Facts&ContentRecord_id=22F155E4-8C88... ] whose main scientific credential is that he graduated from medical school.

Their advocacy for dissent is particularly ironic for a blog which has no provision for comments. Yours, of course, are welcome at the link below [F6 note -- access via source link last below], but please keep the discussion civil. It also helps to give specific, factual reasons and sources for your opinions if you wish to be taken seriously.
