Ok. LOL. I've become increasingly anti-dividend over the years. Actually I started out tilting toward growth and away from current income because I was young, single and in a pretty high tax bracket (like almost everyone) back then.

I like divs for one main reason, because they are *slight* evidence that a company is "for real." As I tell my kids, scammy or troubled firms don't often pay dividends. Then I point out that Enron DID pay a Q dividend but a small one and one that hadn't been increased under the Ken Lay etc. group.

In recent years, since I've owned BRK, I've followed Buffett's reasoning more and more: stick with growth vehicles and if you need cash, just sell some shares.

Above all, I'm nauseated by the ultra high yield gimmicks peddled to unsophisticated old geezers in the name of "retirement income"... leveraged rubbish that's almost guaranteed to collapse in the next recession, just as similar stocks blew up in 2008 and 2001. I see obvious shills on IHUB, SA and other boards cheerleading for such.

I may be the only one cheerleading for quality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like your FIL is pretty smart.
