I do know stock market history (heck I've lived a chunk of it!). Over the decades I've met oldtimers who claimed to have known "millionaires" who made it "by buying T before or during the Depression." That's largely nonsense.

The internet allows anyone to research ATT back to 1893. It was a damn nice investment during the Depression when it held its dividend and its price, but it didn't create many tycoons. Here are AT&T divs back to 1893.

A puzzling thing on stock boards are investors who fall in love with lackluster stocks, and sometimes outright scams! AT&T certainly isn't the worst example. There have been a number of stock-driven suicides where investors repeatedly averaged down on junk.

What was the greatest money-making stock in history? Standard Oil/Exxon by Far.
