JPM is frequently accused of manipulating gold and silver markets through "spoofing" and through naked shorting in the futures markets- with the de facto backing of the Federal Reserve (too big to fail, don't you know). I formerly labeled such talk as conspiracy theory until I tried to buy gold and silver near the spot price.
