The new management is serious about turning this ship around, and frankly given the publicity and exposure this company had, I expect them to be able to hire great engineers easily.

People are in a sense volunteering to build a better empire. In their own image. They believe in the cause, they drank the koolaid. This is the secret ingredient that powered 2004-circa google and 2007-facebook. Faith in building something amazing that will change the world.
This is what keeps people going.

GME cautiously holds a golden egg. A beloved Brand, a rockstar-type leader (Cohen), a mass of young people equating gamestop's success with fixing a broken, evil financial system that wants to see american companies go bankrupt.

Yes people will be laid off, yes stores will close. And 1b in cash will be raised. GME will only become stronger through this.

The board of directors is paid in equity, the job postings mention a business case that will be studied for decades, and it's true.

Yes, GME will be a business school study case.
GME will be ran like a startup, a hotshot startup that doesn't need to prove market-fit, business cases, or build a beloved brand. Because it has already achieved customer loyalty, publicity, positive brand sentiment. And do not forget that everyday new gamers are born. A growing market.
