That is not true. Plaintiffs and defendants pay their own legal fees in the US. You may be thinking of the law in UK. The Court has the option to order the defendant to pay legal fees for the plaintiff in rare and egregious cases. However, it rarely happens and recent case law still upholds that plaintiffs fund there own legal fees.
