she had extremely long nails that I wasn't comfortable to trim by myself. The quicks are very long because I don't think the last owner ever took her for clippage

Yeah black nails are a bear. Got to feel your way.

The quicks become longer, the longer the interval between trimmings. The Vets can usually get the nail trimmed down below the quick. Then we the owners forget to trim regularly, and the quick takes up more of the nail. Back to square one.

Since I had all of my dogs at 6-12 weeks of age, I could train them to sort of cooperate with treats. Not sure how I would approach a newly acquired adult dog. Probably take em to a Vet... or groomer LOL

Her coat is so thin that she doesn't need a bath unless she decides someday to roll in something offensive to the palate.



Rolling in Deer berries produces a pungent pseudo sweet smell. Then there is rolling in road kill. Followed by eating it, and the smell of fresh diarrhea the next morning. The someday will always come.
