After 10-14 days from the first vax, most of the protection is present
As in the system is primed for an Anamnestic response in 80% of the mRNA recipients. The high Antibody response doesn't get triggered after just one dose. Low levels of Abs and T cells are produced after the 1st or priming jab. If after the 1st jab you then come into contact with Covid, the Anamnestic response kicks in, with a rapid Ab titer increase, eventually equivalent to a two dose jab. This is also seen in those who recovered from Covid, and then got just the first jab.
I'm 3 weeks past the 2nd Moderna. My reaction to the 2nd jab was quite a sore arm, and body aches for the first 36 hrs. No fever, or other side effects. A lot better than being infected with Covid. Also intend to get the Moderna B.1.351 (S. Africa variant) booster when it comes out in Jul(?). Where it will be directed against the E484K mutation, being found in various other variants. Covid running out of tricks with its mutations?
The data for the 65+ crowd isn't strong for the Astrazeneca vaccine. With 3 other vaccines to choose from, shouldn't be a problem in the US. The UNC healthcare system is listing 1 or 2 jab vaccines as choices/locations. Although the J&J cupboard seems to be bare currently.
In my area, I've only encountered 2 anti-VAXers. A couple in my neighborhood of our geriatic age. Where the man is teaching at a university, and the woman likes to be around a lot of kids with her church group. She's begging to become infected. Especially after the B.1.1.7 strain spreads. The rest seem to be getting or have been vaccinated in my area of NC. Only large population left are early teens and kids.
