My understanding is in the 2008 Volkswagen Squeeze, it ended because shares were sold into the market by the decision of insiders to make money for Porsche who owned most of Volkswagen. If that did not happen then it may not have ended like it did.

The new way to handle the situation, would be different. Not to blindly add new shares into the market to end the squeeze and that would be that. I am not sure if this is true but I believe Ryan Cohen said recently he will not do that.
