A pinch of info from my Dr. David Jeremiah Study Bible, I flipped open to this hi-lited piece. Worth sharing: from notes in John concerning Miracles:

The apostle John uniquely positioned Jesus' miracles as evidence of His deity, to attest that Jesus is the Son of God. In fact, John never uses the word miracle in his Gospel. Instead, he uses the word sign when describing a miraculous event in Jesus' ministry. A sign is never erected for its own sake; it always points to something else. At each of Jesus' seven miracles, strategically placed in John's account, the apostle shows that Jesus was acting so that others would know that He was from the Father, who gave Him the power to perform such miracles.
