Short selling is not immoral. Have you ever sold shares of a company and then bought back in when the price went down? Because that is the same thing as short selling. If you disagree then you don't really understand what short selling is.

The immoral part is selling/loaning shares that don't exist. Short selling gets a bad rap because of naked shorts. There is no equivalent of naked long buying. Fabricated shares are always initiated on the short sell side even if they end up in the hands of a long.
