thanks for posting this frustrating article. I used to like Vice news, but this writer has a mind as narrow as a plastic straw. She bends over backwards to be non-complimentary to a first rate idea. In my opinion, it's because she not only doesn't understand the idea, but can't even imagine the significance of utilizing energy waste to power bitcoin mining. With all the lip service dedicated to the importance of green energy, here is a genuinely down-to-earth real idea being judged from on high by someone blissfully typing away on a laptop made of math, electrical engineering, the creative use of plastics, metals and good old fashioned know how.

Bitcoin is playing the long game. And in that game, the use of energy has already become a major part of the conversation. Blockchain is going to make energy use the central theme of all things financial and it's going to change the future. This midget-minded judgmental story will, hopefully, lead Vice news to either die quickly, or else get back to being the creative source it used to be before it went crazy.

Here's the author forced to grudgingly allow the possibility that dealing positively with a real world waste product is better than poking yourself in the eye with a sharp stick.

"Is it “green?” No. Is it single-handedly boiling the oceans? Also, no. What it is doing is exploiting a niche in an inefficient system to cheaply transform waste into profit. Fossil fuels are still harmful to the planet, however, and clearly these dirty energy sources still power a chunk of the Bitcoin network."

And clearly stupid writers still power a large chunk of journalism.
