I know you don't understand what SMB networking is, but take my word for it any multimedia on your Mac or USB storage device will play on this sucker.
Don't you find NetGear's official press release ironic, I wonder why they would say you can use the device with Macs, but what do they know???
The reqs you pasted are for the accompanying software.
As with many other gizmos there is special Windows interface software which creates libraries of your media, which has a browser based interface, you won't need it with your Mac.
It would be akin to Front Row, although not so controlling. iTV and Front Row always steer you to iLife files/folders ,media purchases at iTMS and it requires using some aliases to get it to play files you don't have precisely where Cupertino thinks you should have them
If you have files on your Mac drive or USB storage that include things like aac,mpg1,2,3,4,jpg,png,psd,flac,avi,mov,xvid,wmv,wav they will play on your TV over a fast wireless network. In my case I'll have a 500MB USB 2.0 drive plugged directly into the EVA 8000 and my Mac drive connected over a WiFI-n SMB network.
I'll take photos for you when my unit arrives
