From my reading of the financial reports I have an impression I have disagreement with a claim often made on this message board, regarding an investor paying off all of the ASTI's debt. Let me make clear that I am not saying anyone is lying. I just think the claim being made is in error. I simply disagree on the matter, but perhaps I am wrong.

It seemed to that the wealthy person bought all of the company's notes (a form of debt) - not that the person paid off all the debt. In my impression the company still owes the debt, but now to a different person than before.

Buying corporate notes is like buying US treasury notes and like buying bonds, in regards to it being an investment in an interest paying security. The person owning the notes (or other debt) is to receive interest payments on the debt and eventually the issuer of the debt (such as ASTI) is to payoff the debt to the person owning the debt securities.

Maybe my impression is in error about regarding whether or not the debt was paid off for ASTI, but I don't think so. Ask yourselves, would it make sense for anyone to simply pay off the debt without taking some ownership stake in the company? Later when I have more free time I will study the financial filing again to see if I have the correct understanding on this matter.

In posting to this site, it is my primary aim to provide accurate information and good ideas to the readers, for their benefit - and not hype or nonsense or gross exaggerations. I hope I achieve that goal. I also hope to learn by asking questions.
