One final thought -
As a collector of album art, I always thought this one was intriguing (below). One interpretation is that the child is being mesmerized and tempted by the promise of riches, but upon giving in (selling his soul), he will end up like the two previous children on the left, now mute, who silently try to warn him not to make the deal with the old wizard (ie the Devil). There are other interpretations, but to me it always seemed like a cautionary warning -
